Today, I joined daughter Wendy and her boyfriend, Andreas Modl, for a paddle from the Port San Luis Hand Launch Ramp to Pirates' Cove.

We launched at about 8:30 a. m. without incident into from a low tide into light surf and then paddled by the two piers.  Sea conditions were very calm.  We paddled close to the rocks, spotting sea otters basking on the rocks.  We cut through several beds of seaweed before arriving at Pirates' Cove.

After watching the sea otters and exploring the rocks, we returned by the reverse route.  The beach landing was through a mild wave break and happened without incident.  By 10:00 a. m. we had the kayaks loaded on the trucks and headed to the new espresso bar in Port San Luis for a celebratory cappuccino/hot chocolate.

I've posted a chart of our trip (not for navigation) at http://www.fullbean.com/kayak/charts/port-san-luis-to-pirates-cove.jpg
